Life update: I live in a house. I’m officially a house spouse.
We had been waiting a few years on an inheritance check from my wife and her sister’s grandfather. When it came in the mail, I messaged a real estate agent and soon enough the three of us were moving into our new house. No, seriously, it took like a month from getting the money to owning and living in a house.
Well, I don’t own it, but I get to stay there for free. I do a lot of the chores and cooking. I didn’t write much last month because was busy packing and moving and unpacking and planning a housewarming party and such. House spouse stuff.
My wife is the breadwinner. She’s a software engineer. She works backend on a popular streaming service. We met in Berkeley where we both got a BA in Computer Science. She graduated a year ahead of me. She’s very good at programming. I'm not bad, either, but I’ve never had much of a career in the tech industry, since I graduated right before the pandemic and was transitioning around that time as well, both of which she helped me with. She is my greatest blessing. We just celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary (8 years together).
I’m not just a house spouse, I’m going to be a part-time student soon. Last month, I was accepted into a Master’s program, and I start in fall. I'm going back to school to learn to be a librarian. I’ve always liked books. And I’m very organized. And good with computers. I’m a big e-book fan. I get to read the latest books immediately without leaving my house and also not have them clutter up my house. Did I mention I live in a house?
And, since the white picket fence is not complete without 1.94 children, I am also...considering that. As of now we have birds. I like taking care of our pet birds. Right now I’m trying to keep the big one from bothering the little ones. They really are similar to kids.
I’m starting a separate blog all about my adventures trying to get pregnant and have kids as a trans guy. It’s only loosely based in reality, so feel free to follow it or not. If you are my family or someone in that ballpark, I would recommend not reading it. It might get NSFW (though I’ll also specifically tag that).
I’m so happy. I feel really lucky and privileged to be living this life. I know things are pretty shitty in my country, but I have so much to be grateful for.
